CREATING EQUALITY AND INCLUSION

For Labels and Publishers

Gender Quota Strategy and Policy Design

As the world faces complex and interconnected challenges, the United Nations has set forth 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to guide global efforts towards sustainable and inclusive development. To achieve these goals, it is crucial for governments, businesses, and organizations to design and implement effective SDG strategies and policies.

In the music industry, there is a growing recognition of the need for gender equality and diversity, and many companies are seeking guidance in developing SDG policies and strategies that address these issues.

Project first.wave is committed to supporting music industry players in this process by providing design and strategy guidelines, as well as other resources and tools to promote gender equality and support the SDGs. In this way, we aim to contribute to a more sustainable, inclusive, and equitable music industry for all.

For Collecting Societies and Music Organisations

Building a Support Network

Project first.wave is committed to building a support network for the music industry, particularly for female and non-binary music producers. To achieve this, we are creating alliances with collecting societies and other music industry organizations. Our goal is to reach all music companies and provide them with strategic and design consulting and development. By establishing these partnerships, we can support established and aspiring female music producers, promoting diversity and inclusion in the industry.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of our project, we have established the European Music Production Association (EMPA). The association aims to represent the rights of music producers and promote gender equality, fair payment, and a balanced share of the music industry. Through advocacy, networking, education and training, standards and best practices, research, community and support, and events, EMPA seeks to foster international cooperation and collaboration among music producers in Europe and beyond. We welcome music organisations, companies, and music producers to join the association and help us achieve our priorities for 2023-2033.

Quota Commitment Advocacy

We are embarking on a multi-phased initiative to promote diversity and inclusion in the music industry. In the first phase, we are actively educating major music sourcing industries and companies such as film, media, and gaming industries on the importance of gender-balanced music sourcing. Additionally, we are collaborating with music education institutions and industry players to develop strategies and design processes to create their own gender policies.

As part of our efforts to drive change, we are advocating for quota commitments from industry players. We are specifically encouraging businesses to commit to sustainability goals and gender quotas related to female and non-binary music producers. By working with key stakeholders and leveraging our expertise in this area, we aim to drive meaningful change and help create a more equitable and inclusive music industry for all.

For Female and Non-binary Music Producers

Research of a Future Digital Platform

Project first.wave aims to conduct extensive research on the key features and functions of a future digital platform that can provide a supportive community network for female music professionals in music production. The platform will facilitate connections, collaborations, and provide access to resources to promote the inclusion and advancement of women in the industry. Through this research, we will identify the most effective tools and methods to design and develop a digital platform that is user-friendly, secure, and sustainable. Our ultimate goal is to create a vibrant and supportive community of female music professionals that can empower each other and contribute to a more diverse and inclusive music industry.
